Our fourth annual School of Theology will be held in Palmerston North from 5th to 9th July 2010. This page provides provisional information which will be confirmed nearer the time, when online registration will also be available.

The School of Theology

This annual week of teaching and discussion is aimed at helping men who desire to be better equipped for service in their churches. It is a post-graduate level course which assumes familiarity with the Bible and Christian theology.
While it is primarily intended for men who attend churches within the Fellowship of Reformed Baptist Churches in New Zealand, others may be able to attend at the discretion of the elders (please contact us before registering if you are not involved in a church within the FRBCNZ). Participants will be expected to attend the entire School of Theology which will begin with lunch at 12:45pm on Monday 5th July 2010 and conclude with dinner the following Friday.
GRBC members will provide accommodation to participants from outside Palmerston North who require a place to stay. In addition to morning and afternoon tea between sessions, lunch and dinner will also be provided each day. These costs are included in the registration fee.

The Subject

The 2010 School of Theology will focus on the topic, Theology of the Ministry. This will be an in-depth introduction to the nature of the Christian ministry, the nature of the call to the ministry, and the requisite gifts and graces for the Christian minister. It will also address the centrality of the ministry of the word, and the biblical and Reformed doctrine of the regulative principle of worship. Interaction and discussion during the sessions will ensure that this material on Pastoral Theology from a Reformed Baptist perspective will be applied with practical relevance to our local church situations.

The Speaker

Dr. James M. Renihan is a respected author and conference speaker while also serving as Dean and Professor of Historical Theology at the Institute of Reformed Baptist Studies at Westminster Seminary in Escondido, California. He is currently an elder at Escondido Reformed Baptist Church, having previously served as pastor of churches in Massachusetts and New York.
Jim has taught at our School of Theology for the past three years:

  • 2007 on the topic, Baptist Symbolics: the history, language and theology of the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith,
  • 2008 on Baptist History,
  • 2009 on the Distinctives of Reformed Baptist Theology.
